Assistant Operations Manager – Tour Logistics

April – early October

Potentially, a year-round position for the right person wanting to relocate to Haines but primarily required to work April – October (minimum).

Training and experience: This important position requires a mature self-starter with sales, organizational, and people skills. Small business and personnel management important. Computer skills in Excel, Microsoft Word required. Knowledge of social media marketing a plus.

Persons willing to obtain a Class B CDL, current CPR & First Aid certification are highly desirable.

Experience in the tour industry helpful.

Responsibility: Help to oversee tour company’s schedules, reservations, and marketing. Must maintain good public relations and assist in supervising staff members.

Pay: competitive wage, DOE. 

Naturalist-Guide (non-CDL) & CDL Drivers (Class B CDL passenger & airbrakes)

Between April – September

We are seeking naturalists/tour guides with a solid background in the sciences and a lot of enthusiasm for interpreting the flora and fauna of coastal Alaska. This position is suited for gregarious people who feel comfortable being outdoors speaking to groups. Must pay attention to detail and follow safety protocol.

Our daily trips explore numerous habitats, including ocean beaches, river, estuaries, lakes, temperate forest, alpine regions, and muskeg on foot and by bus.

Training and experience: College degree in science field, or at least two years of experience teaching, field work, guiding tours, or study in related subjects. This position requires a solid knowledge of local flora and fauna and numerous ecosystems. Guides need to have excellent communication skills, current CPR/First Aid. Training is provided for the commercial driver’s license. Pre-employment drug testing required for drivers.

Responsibility: Interpret the natural history of the Haines area while providing a safe and enjoyable tour. Lead groups on bus tours, walks, and hikes. Must be capable of emergency response and evacuation. Ability to make quick decisions based on group dynamics and needs of the clients. Professionalism in manner and dress are important when conducting company business.

 

Skagway Dock Representative – No CDL required. (Skagway resident preferred)

Season is May – Sept 28

Alaska Nature Tours based in Haines, AK offers shore excursions to several cruise lines docked in Skagway, AK

The Dock Rep is responsible for meeting and greeting all guests and escorting then to the nearby tour departure location.

Skills: Excellent communication, detail oriented, and problem solving.

Duties include: Communicate with ships’ staff and tour headquarters in Haines, AK several times per day, complete all paperwork and tour counts accurately, supply promotional material, give tour briefings, and facilitate smooth operations.

Must possess great customer service skills and can-do attitude. CPR/first aid certification a plus. Work shifts are outdoors for short periods of time. Covid-19 vaccinations preferred.
