Discover a lush Alaskan rain forest, coastal meadow and beach on this 3.7 mile hike. Your guides will introduce you to Haines and the historic Chilkat Peninsula trailhead. Oxygen rich air and thick mossy carpet entice you along a path into the forest. Your senses will be awakened by the subtle smells, alluring sounds of birds and the play of delicate light patterns under the canopy of old-growth trees. You will learn about the coastal ecology, wild edibles and the varied uses of indigenous plants. Be on the lookout for bald eagles, waterfowl, seals, and the occasional humpback whale.
Why hike with a guide? We are lucky to live in an area with lots of wildlife. Our guides are naturalists who specialize in trail-side interpretation and back country travel. They are trained in first aid, radio and cellphone equipped, and carry bear production to ensure a safe and memorable experience.
Guest should be in good shape and able to hike easily over uneven terrain. Wear layered clothing with waterproof shell and sturdy hiking shoes.
Regarding Covid, physical distancing guidelines implemented, if needed. Tour vehicle capacity may be reduced. Masks and sanitizer are offered. If guests are feeling ill, they are advised to cancel their excursions.
